My name is Melissa Medendorp, and I just started a new position as a TRIO Academic Advisor at Black Hawk College in Moline, Illinois.
For the last 5 years I have been working at Black Hawk College as an Educational Advisor. Before that I worked Clinton High School, Clinton Community College, and Ashford University which are all located in Clinton, Iowa. I have worked in the education field for a total of 26 years. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and my Master’s Degree in Organizational Management from Ashford University. I was a first-generation student and had a rough start to my academic career. This is the very reason I have a passion for helping students dive into their education.
My hobbies include reading, writing, hiking, kickboxing, and horses! I love to be outside enjoying the sunshine and warm weather in the summer. In the winter I spend a great deal of time reading as I am not a very good cold weather person. I live in Fulton, Illinois with my husband of 32 years. I have a 25-year-old daughter who is a Graphic Designer. She is my pride and joy!
